Actual Play – Trait Vote (11/22/2011)

GM: Shaun Hayworth
Players: Sean Nittner, Kristin Hayworth, Justin Dhiel
System: Burning Wheel
Setting: Burning Theorsa

We did a trait vote last night. Two hours and really got to re-image our characters, I was impressed at how much they changed.

Moya

We stripped: Extremely Respectful of One’s Elders and Mark of Privilege. Not only had neither of them come up, but she had been actively working against both of them.

We added: Spiteful, Dutiful and Glib. All very appropriate. When we were trying to narrow the vote down between Spiteful and Dutiful we just couldn’t do it. She had a man stoned to death for cutting her out of her “cut” of a robbery, but yet always stood by Baldric’s side no matter how brash (or stupid) he was.

Eogin

We added: Bookworm, Optimistic and Resigned to Fate. Optimistic game in as a late entry but is so, so appropriate to the priest who always assumes his faith will prevail… even after being given leprosy by his gods.

Baldric

We stripped: Iron Will. Appropriate to the character but it just hasn’t come up in the game.

We added: Determined, Idealistic and Gloryhound. Justin made a very good plea for Cold Blooded, Baldric had killed a man to take his name even though he knew it was a horrible thing. Later he led soldiers to sack a city to complete his mission. He’s committed some atrocities he knows are very wrong, but did them, and will continue to do them, for his mission. Determined, however covered it quite well, without the questionable mechanical effects of Cold Blooded.

Thoughts on the game

The trait vote took about two hours, but didn’t seem like it. We first rattled off traits that should be removed, nominated new ones and then did some elimination. Where did all that time go.

I look forward to next session. Into the desert!

Edit: Can’t believe I didn’t think of this during the vote. The trait Moya needs is deceitful. Wow, how did I miss that?
