For a season or two there were small rumbles in the ground, but two weeks ago there was a big shake. The night after a yellow and green pillar of light shot up into the sky from over the mountains to the north. Since then, more undead have appeared in the area. The village of Zerenbor sent request for aid from the local lord Lady Victoria Slihim, but she had ridden out with some Order of Silver and Steel to hunt some extra dangerous undead called a Weeper. So the village is offering up a few meager coins and some supplies they’ve assembled to your oathbound heroes.
This game session was a bit short. I had run the donut (a cool part of Go Play NW) so we started a bit late, but we made it work.
Jozy played Zodia, the Lykani thief given the moniker “Spring Jack” for leaving coiled springs as a calling card. By the end she was disgusted by the empire because of the terrible artifacts left behind in memory of Lady Adara.
Brendan played Zaya the scholar turned charlatan. He rode on his horse “Horse” to get as far as way from Nikor (his twin) and was definitely not a lord descended from the Necromancer Kings of the Empire a thousand years ago.
Travis played Kukini the tiny warrior from the dark with crystals jutting from her cheeks like lower tusks. By the end of the game she hated necromancy because it leached power from the deep. “That nightwood tree must burn!”
Luca played the dragon-touched wild child Silver Shines in the Dark (sometimes “Silver”, never “in the”), beloved by the children of Zerenbor for saving them from an avalanche. He exhaled flames with all his might and still the Skull Bear of Ben Assar assailed him and his companions, but he would not relent!
Some wonderful moments:
- When Kukini drew on the strength of the Deep to push the stone door back onto it’s tracks and crystals formed out of the ground to support her, then later when she did it again and some of the crystals, instead of returning to the earth were absorbed by the nightwood tree. So mad!
- When Zodia found the secret door and used a long thing bar to pull the latch from the other side, lowering down in a dusty room full of 13 hateful tomb guardians, their violent wills straining against their necromantic orders.
- When Zaya looked at each of the historical artifacts on display and realized each one was more horrific and depraved than the next.
- When Silver tried to reach through the slot in the turning wall mosaics and nearly lost and his arm from the elbow down in the process.
- When our oathbound heroes stood over the viewing chamber and felt terribly vertiginous from the endless drop between them, and then realized the Empire had designed it that way on purpose!
- Finally when they all realized that repairing the Onyxium obelisk would stop the recent attacks but it wasn’t good enough, they wanted to destroy this entire place, even if that took years to accomplish! Yay!
