Adventure Log

At the office…
Malik comes bearing donuts, which means the case isn’t one we’re going to like. But it’s right in DC.

Some of Malik’s friends run an underground TV station and show called “In Search of the Supernatural,” and often shares information with Malik. The upcoming episode “Elvis Has Left the Building,” claims that Elvis and Nixon were seen alive and well in a bar in DC, called the White House.

Jessica comments that we could go to the bar for a belated birthday celebration for Mordecai…Stasia comments that she had tried to circulate a card but it had gotten lost on Jessica’s desk.
Stasia has a vision of something rising out of a bog…only to cut to red splatter, as she bites into a raspberry jelly donut and makes a mess.

At the bar…
The White House Bar and Grille looks the part. Parked outside is another van—Loch Ness Monster Productions. The bar is filled with presidential memorabilia. It’s said they serve the best steaks in DC. Stasia orders the Impeachmet Bellini, Jessica orders a water and a steak, and gives Mordecai his card. Mordecai orders onion rings, a salad, and a Lime Item Veto.

There’s a guy at the bar chatting with the bartender who seems conspiratorial, is gossiping about Elvis. The bartender is also flirting a bit with a woman at the bar. A woman and an older man enter, wearing Loch Ness Monster Productions shirts. They’re arguing the merits of the Elvis claims.

Stasia approaches the guy at the bar—David. He says that Elvis and Nixon arrive separately, but knew each other. He says they looked the real deal, no makeup. He’s an aspiring actor and is hoping to connect with their agent.

The older LNMP guy leaves, the woman stays. The bar starts to fill up.

10-15 minutes after midnight, Elvis appears from the bathroom. He starts shaking hands, etc., goes to the bar to order a drink. Mordecai scopes out the bathroom, doesn’t find a bag of clothes or other signs that someone changed into costume. Nixon appears from the front door about 15 minutes later. He’s also playing to the crowd, but with a little less exuberence. Nixon is embarrassed when Elvis gives him a hug.

The LNMP woman pushes up to Elvis, is trying to get an interview.

Stasia goes to the door to wait for either one to leave so she can follow them. The LNMP camera guy is getting set up.

Mordecai steals a pic of Elvis and Nixon off the wall, gets a feeling like a fight might break out. People are annoyed that the LNMP woman keeps trying to dominate Elvis’s time.

Jessica asks Elvis for an autograph on a cocktail napkin. Elvis keeps stalling, doesn’t get around to it. Nixon offers an interview for $10k. Elvis talks about liking Monty Python.

Jessica introduces herself to Crystal, the TV woman, and tries to lure her away with promises of divulging case info. Crystal says that her audio tape is useless, you can’t hear Elvis at all. Jessica offers to examine the audio files.

A little after 1am, people start dispersing. Elvis and Nixon are gone. Stasia asks the bartender if she saw where he went, he says they said they had to go and disappeared into the crowd. They don’t always enter from the same place.

Back at the office…
Jessica examines the audio, there’s no trace of Elvis or Nixon. She examines the video, also no Elvis or Nixon. Jessica recalls a microphone on the bar that’s not in the video, Mordecai remembers a platinum record on the wall that’s not in the video. Upon returning to the bar, there’s no microphone or record.

Malik mentions that on his darkest days of 4chan, people in the Brony community claimed to be able to conjure unicorns.

Jessica helps Mordecai with weird science, Stasia goes online but can’t prove herself on the Brony message boards. Someone offers to meet her offline. She learns about tulpamancers—people who can conjure tulpas, a manifestation of one’s desires. She’s not entirely convinced.

Mordecai and Jessica do some research on psychomancy to create a device that detects mental projection. It requires some brain fluid, which takes some doing to acquire.

Back at the bar…
Mordecai’s machine is squawking at a lot of different things. He gets a spike and then hears Elvis in the back kitchen. We try to scan anyone there who was there the night before. Stasia sees a bunny on a barstool.

Mordecai’s scanner squawks when it reaches a woman who the bartender had been flirting with the night before. Jessica and Mordecai approach her and ask to talk outside. She seems apprehensive. A knight in black armor taps Jessica on the shoulder. The woman (Amy) tries to get him to go away.

Elvis excuses himself to the bathroom, Stasia follows him. The bunny appears, it’s the evil bunny from Monty Python. The bunny kills Elvis and attacks Stasia. Stasia struggles with it and gets it sucked partway into a hand-dryer.

Jessica and Mordecai notice a shiny sword and orb with a cross. Mordecai recognizes it as a holy hand grenade. Jessica helps Stasia out of the bathroom and helps organize an evacuation. Mordecai chucks the grenade into the bathroom. Lots of explosions.

Jessica stabilizes Stasia. Mordecai runs after Amy but has to go through the Black Knight to get to her. But he successfully apprehends Amy.

Amy is an (unsuspecting) tulpamancer, who was trying to do short cons for cash. Stasia starts to yell at Amy for endangering others with her powers, then has complicated feelings about it. As we’re escorting her back to HQ, the car gets a flat and she escapes. Everyone definitely suspects Stasia is responsible. It’s a quiet car ride back to the office.
