The Message
Recorded Message from Aurora Eugenio through secure channels, with transcript:
Old friend, I am still traveling the many islands in Visayas to collect old and new stories of the
Bakunawa myth. I follow its trail of moonlight and stormy eclipses! I am to meet my wife and fellow
researcher, Jayne Adlao, in Bitin Islands.
Jayne is convinced that an artifact is hidden away here, the song of Adlawko, The Thundering Heart. An ancient instrument or device capable of driving away the great moon-hungry Bakunawa with the sound of thunder.
The recording stops momentarily, some time has passed before it resumes. When Eugenio speaks again, she sounds panicked.
Jayne is missing. Her camp site has been ransacked. It seems she has been taken or has fled deeper into the island. The few locals here whisper of an unknown group in the shadows, some even speak of the mythical Banwaanon becoming more active and seeking out humans. I suspect that it’s more likely that one of our common rivals or adversaries has infiltrated the island.
My research tells me that if the artifact exists, it must be in the Tomb of Adlawko, the fallen sun god who died while cursing the Bakunawa. We must reach the Heart of the tomb, and find both Jayne and the ancient instrument, before our enemies do.
The Play
Our intrepid Seekers (now explorers) saved the villagers from the unnatural storm, met the Banwannon in the woods, and found dangerous truths in the shipwreck of the old Manilla galleon.
