GM: Sophie Lagacé
Players: Edmund Metheny, Fred Hicks, Sean Nittner
System: Tschai: Planet of Adventure
Who has not dreamed of discovering distant planets and contacting alien species? Who wouldn’t venture into the distant land, to join diverse human civilizations? Jack Vance wrote a series of space-opera novels to explore these topics, all set on the strange planet of Tschai.
Sophie ran a great game. Here’s the characters Fred and I played (I couldn’t find Edmund’s unfortunately).
From my notes:
Xondro, a Xar far from his home in the marshes near Lake Falas. Xondro and his band were exiled for their heretical faith. They believed in the right to love whomever you heart desires and not to follow the ordained laws of marriage. Xondro, and many of his crew, were imprisoned and mutilated for their “perversions”. Free they now see to help others escape from Xar or short of that, to live their true selves, whatever that may be. Xondro had his black hair pushed back in narrow rows, each waxed to hold in place. He wears a grey cloak embroidered in green and gold by his love Pyrrah. He drags his left leg which no longer bends properly.
Gavrus Kai, a typically-pale, dark-robed wanderer of the Wannekman people. While his appearance may strike one as severe, conversation with him quickly reveals someone who cares deeply about the things that bind people together, whether family, trauma, fellowship, or loss. Those who act against his friends quickly find their fortunes reversed, with no clear cause at hand.
We got XP at the end of the session for resolving bonds, acting within our temperament, discovering new places, meeting new people, and getting closer to our common goal. A nice reward system.
