We consulted Aurelia to learn about how the nobles of Doskvol bind demons with artifacts and learned of the Dimmer Sisters part in their ploys.
When you seek out Aurelia, we see the same beautiful dress she was wearing hanging against a wall. Upon inspection, the dress appears to move ever so slightly, as if it was breathing. When you ask the question, the nearby bookshelf moves by just an inch, as if pushed by an invisible hand. A roll of papers fall from the top of the bookshelf, and opens to reveal a map of the city. A shadow moves, and something that looks like an inkblot begins to bloom on the map, Brightstone.
The lighting in the room dims, and brightens, and dims again. On the edge of hearing, a soft voice, “The Dimmer Sisters, a contract binding, paid in full, from heir to sister to heir to sister again. Safe keeping, keeping safe, for generations a Nicoletti has not been able to bear the tools of binding without…consequence. So sisters be, and sisters we, and sisters free.”
The lights remain dim, the dress sighs, Aurelia awaits your next question.
Which of the Sister is the custodian of the artifact?
As you and Penance each place a hand on the paper planchette, you feel a faint tingle at your fingertips. The planchette is still for a long moment, but surely enough it starts to shift from under your fingers. You’re not sure if it’s moving on its own, if an unseen force is guiding your hand, or if you somehow know where it must go.
The planchette moves slowly and lazily across the page, teasing, considering, because it lurches suddenly and stops at a beautiful illustration of a hyacinth.
From the door, you see Mateas watching. The jealousy and greed sharpens his gaze. If his eyes could burn through your hands, they would.
