Welcome to CISRA, the Center for Invasive Species Research and Assessment. Your mission is to investigate paranormal activity, determine its threat level, and, if possible, bring it in alive to study.

It has been two weeks since we performed the ritual to cleanse Wolfgang and Stasia of the Cursed Speech. Wolfgang disappeared briefly a few days before the two weeks were up, but we rounded him up, re-performed the ritual, and he’s now safely waiting out the two-week window.

Stasia races off, compelled by her vision of a man tied to a chair with a knife at his throat. As she races into the room, she hears a woman saying, “Hans, we know you’re the traitor.”

Every two years, the various divisions and bureaus of the Department of the Interior meet for a major interdepartmental conference. This year, thanks to Malik, it’s being held at the Salzwefel, a spacious, and by government conference standards, quite luxurious. It’s also got enough weird things that don’t add up to pique Malik’s interest, who is utterly triumphant about securing the location.

The next morning, Stasia and Malik head to Womack’s home, making sure Amber is safe and sound at the hotel before they go. As they approach, the two are watched by a large swarm of black birds in the trees.

It’s a slow day, when Director McCloud approaches. She’s got a lead, albeit a weak one. A missing person report was filed, but rescinded shortly thereafter; supposedly, the missing person turned into a flock of black birds and flew away. Malik starts digging and finds that the report was rescinded from the same location as it was submitted—a national park in Virginia.

A dinner party at Mordecai’s. Occasionally we hear knocking, but we get distracted, prepare dinner, then we hear it again. Mordecai frets over the roast, pops out the kitchen and again to banter. Malik is checking the books to see if they open secret doors. Wondering how Mordecai’s place is so immaculate compared to Jessica’s. Stazia is swapping out records on the vinyl.

At Dr. Noble’s lab the team decides they need to do something to sabotage these prosthetics in order to prevent the violence from Stasia’s vision from manifesting. Mordecai gets the tools he needs and gets to work sabotaging the prosthetics.

The team is reviewing files when some names jump out at them: Rose Marie Wenton is a former colleague of Mordecai’s at Caltech who is quoted in a piece on campus demonstration at UC Davis.
