The office retreat last weekend was great, everyone had a an okay time and got back safe. Except Brice Peterson, who forgotten, left behind, was horribly injured and spent two days in the hospital before returning to work, where everyone else wanted to pretend like nothing happened. It was their job to pretend like nothing happened, ignore Brice as much as possible, and never, under any circumstances, acknowledge or apologize for leaving Brice behind.
I played Brice. It was my job to ask people uncomfortable questions (like “why didn’t you think to look for me?” or “I thought we were friends. Did I do something wrong?”).
The game was incredibly awkward and mundane, very much in the spirit of The Office. The game addresses ableism and people’s unwillingness to talk about or directly address things that make them uncomfortable.
We collectively all acted like we were working in an office and had many fake phone calls, emails, and filled out requisition forms for various lengths, angles, and materials of tubes.
At the end we gave Jason feedback on how play went. I’m excited to see how the game develops.
