First and Faster, Baby! (7/27/2024)

GM: Sean Nittner
Players: Tracy O’Brien, Nathan Black, Clayton Grey, Doug Bartlett
System: Blades in 68′

Seeing that Blades in 68′ was a hit the night before I offered to run it in the Donut. If you haven’t gone to Go Play NW, the primary method people use for getting in game is by getting in a circle (hence the “donut”) and pitching games. Once the pitches are done we use a board pass system to call folks up to pick games the want to play. It works remarkably well for groups from 15-40. Smaller than that and you’ might not have enough to offer that everyone can find a game. Larger and the whole thing just takes too long.

I was volunteering to run the donut, which I like to do, but it’s hard to both run the donut and get into a game, so my cheat is to run the donut and also offer a game myself. Blades in 68 filled fast and I got a fantastic group of players.

  • Grigor “Dirk” Sang, the Radical, blazing along in what he assumed to be a stolen autopod.
  • Hattie Baine, aka Canary, a veteran from Unity War III who was here for a tan and to party. Sitting in the back seat with a can of Alluvium.
  • Culvert, the Operative, who didn’t want any of this nonsense.
  • Tre Regulan, the Paranormalist, waiting at the end of the bridge with a Resonance Bomb (TM) that would take us back to the olden times.

Some highlights of the game:

  • Nathan’s X-card was a thing of beauty. I used it all con long!
  • Dirk and Canary not being sure of their relationship status, but being sure enough they were probably sleeping together.
  • Full rock and roll, fuck it all, blow up the cops and don’t stop driving vibes. First and Faster, Baby!
  • Culvert calling on his connection with Section 6 (he was a former agent) to patch the deal back together.
  • Marlowe, Canary, and Dirk all yelling at each other as Dirk plowed through the SCORPION Syndicate roadblock.
  • Canary poppsing out of the back of the autopod with a Heavy Assault Coilgun (HAC50) to wreck the bluecoat autopods.
  • The entire crew committing a Class 4 Reality violation right in front of Section 6 when Tre Regulan, used his Alluvium powered resonance bomb to blast them back into Doskvol 100 years in the past.
  • The Class 4 Reality Violation going wrong (go figure) and Tre Regulan being possessed by 100 Dimmer Sisters (I did have some delight in asking Doug to add “possessed” in every single one of his harm boxes and encouraging him not to resist because I was just going to keep adding more if if he did. (fulfilled his future vision)
  • Canary, Dirk, and Marlowe all collectively being either way to inebriated or not nearly inebriated enough to deal with the time warp they experienced. A pistol that was now a blunderbuss. “Which end of this thing do I even hold?”
  • Dirk’s hearts and knives tattoo with the name of a jilted lover reappearing on his hand as our timeline attempted to re-establish itself around us. (fulfilling his lost memories)
  • Canaray who was all about the mini skirts and go go boots having to dress up in a military uniform to meet Lord Dalmore for the handoff. She wore it but with the jacket fully open and nothing underneath.
  • Stacks of cash on the table
  • Culvert having an out of time experience and his doppelganger self appearing and they trying to kill him, who he then had to kill in turn (fulfilling his future vision)
  • Dirk throwing “gravity anomaly bombs” to clear a path!
  • Maybe Dirk and Canary getting married (on a whim) and both of them looking pretty unsure about it in the end (fulfilling Dirk’s future vision)
